Millions of tonnes of polystyrene waste particles dumped into the seas each year. Because of the gradually serious white pollution, many recycling organizations hold campaigns which aimed at raising people's awareness and consequences of the increasing plastic pollution of the oceans. Researchers collect relevant data and measure levels of micro-plastics floating in the water.
The result of a new study indicates that people can track high concentrations of plastic in the lakes in order to get the information of cleanup efforts and target pollution prevention.
Researchers found that several tons of plastic debris enter the lakes every year. Earlier studies estimated that plastics enter the oceans along the coastlines. Plastic pollution in some lakes is approximately the equivalent of 100 swimming pools, the lakes are full of plastic bottles, whereas the yearly amount of the plastic particles in some lakes equate to over 20 pools.
Previous studies measured localized concentrations of plastic pollution which were in the open water, tributaries and along the shorelines. The new study applied mathematical modeling for the first time to extend the scope of the problem over time and spatial scales.
It is estimated that the entire connected lake system and maps plastic debris are moving between lakes and are crossing interstate and international borders.
Compared with the plastics in the ocean, findings of the study show that plastic beads in the lakes travel differently. Instead of the floating garbage found in the ocean, plastic in the lakes are carried by persistent winds and lake currents to the shores.
Plastic micro beads and waste foam could be consumed by wildlife and potentially enter the food chain. When more and more marine debris washed ashore or are entangled in the reefs, this causes a problem for the marine wild life and human health. So the best action for solving this problem is to reduce the use of plastic products and recycle the beads reasonably through EPS densifier.

Pieces of plastic beads frequently get stuck in the throats and digestive tracts of marine animals. So it is very urgent for people to pay attention to this problem and find solutions.
