Polystyrene (PS) refers to the styrene monomer by free radical addition polymerization synthesis of the polymer, the English name for the Polystyrene, referred to as PS. It is a colorless and transparent thermoplastic, with a glass transition temperature above 100 degrees Celsius, and is often used to make disposable containers that require temperatures to withstand boiling water, as well as disposable foam boxes.
However, the polystyrene that has been discarded after use can not enter the bio-chemical cycle through biodegradation and photolysis. Due to the low specific gravity of the expanded polystyrene so as to float on the surface of the water or wind drift, resulting in subjective landscape damage. According to the California Coastal Commission survey, polystyrene is the main marine drift. And for the consumption of such plastic marine life, it will cause harm to its digestive system.
Polystyrene has been significantly reduced in landfill, and over the past 12 months there have been more than 1,300 cubic meters of waste polystyrene being recycled, saving a lot of space. And this only completed one-sixth of the requirements of the recycling program. Polystyrene can not be thrown into a trash can with a yellow lid because it will affect the recovery of other wastes. However, at the time of separation, any garbage station can complete this process, and made a new plastic products. The product is then loaded into a container and transported to other places for use. At present, the main polystyrene disposal is to reduce its capacity after granulation, crushed for a variety of filling materials, cracking oil or recovery of styrene.
